A Divine Romance, A Spiritual Journey into Love
Suddenlies. Those moments in time when everything changes. Squire Bushnell calls it a Godwink, an event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that it is seen as a sign of divine intervention, especially when perceived as the answer to prayer.
Our Divine Romance was not sought after, planned, or even conceived in our minds. My husband passed in May of 2021 and three months later John’s wife passed. For two years I had lived with an inner vow to never marry again. I loved my new home and was content to live alone. John had determined that he would live out his life alone because he didn’t think he would ever love again.
I was in a funk, a sadness, or maybe even depression. My house was finished, and all my ministry projects were on hold. I had no motivation to pick up my ministry. I felt I was being disobedient or maybe lazy.
John had been my pastor for eight years and I decided I needed to talk to him. We had lunch, that lasted four hours, another four-hour lunch, and a five-hour dinner. We obviously enjoyed each other’s company, but we were just friends.
I realized that I needed to renounce the inner vow and when I did, my heart came alive. He had one of those moments when God broke in and his heart came alive and was followed by a God-given dream. The next day he showed up at my doorstep with his arms open and I was more than happy to enter his embrace.
We were married six weeks later.

Suddenlies are divine encounters with God, when His Presence enters our lives in such a way that there is no doubt or unbelief. When you recognize God’s present activity in the moment and respond, new and exciting possibilities of God’s plan are open to you. John and I believe that we can live aware and in expectation of His Presence continually.
Live with a God consciousness and expect the suddenlies!
